James S. Miner II -- Attorney at Law

Jim comes from a long lineage of attorneys. Like his father before him, he is dedicated to the community for which he serves. He specializes in many areas of general practice law; more specifically, bankruptcy, domestic relations, real estate, estate planning, probate practice, and criminal law.

Born and raised in Owosso, Jim graduated from Owosso High School in 1960. In 1964 he graduated from Amherst College. After graduating with honors from the University of Michigan Law school in 1966, Jim practiced two years in the Grand Rapids Area. In January of 1969 he moved to Bay City to be a partner in a local law firm and in 1978 he started Miner and Miner, PLLC.

Jim's professional affilations include admissions to the Western (since 1966) and Eastern (since 1969) District Michigan federal courts, Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit (since 2003), Bay County Bar Association, Michigan Trial Lawyers Association Civic Organizations, past President and present member of the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bay County Inc., present President of the Boys and Girls Club of Bay County Foundation, Inc., and past President and present member of the Bay City Lions Club, the fourth largest Lions club in the United States.

 

Jan A. Miner -- Of Counsel

Jan is the sixth generation of attorneys and joined her father to form Miner & Miner, PLLC in 1995. She is currently Of Counsell to Miner & Miner, PLLC and specializes in family law including, divorce, custody, parenting time, and child support.

Jan obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Thomas Cooley Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1995. She is also admitted to practice law before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

In 1984 Jan graduated from Bay City Central High School. Prior to attending law school, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Scientific Technological Communications, cum laude, from Michigan Technological University, in 1988. While attending MTU, Jan served as an elected member of the Undergraduate Student Government for four years with the last year as President. She also served as a student representative to the AIDS Task Force, Athletic Counsel and liaison to the MTU Board of Control. Jan also received numerous awards including begin selected as an Outstanding Young Women of America. She was also featured in Michigan Woman Magazine as a top 20 Michigan College Graduate. She received the Michigan Governing Board Association Award, e Michigan Tech Leadership Scholarship on three occasions, Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges/Universities, Dean Harold Meese Scholarship, MTU Campus Campaign Scholarship, MTU Student Foundation Outstanding Achievement Award and MTU Student Foundation Leadership Scholarship.

Jan’s professional affiliations include the Bay County Bar Association, for which she has served as a member of the Board of Directors, and the State Bar of Michigan. Ms. Miner is also a member of the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan. She also serves as legal counsel and a member of the Board of Directors of the Disability Services Resource Center; and has served on the board of DSRC since 1994.
